At the Peoria, IL, Labor Day picnic, Pekin Daily Times members were on hand and engaging other unions and union activists about ongoing negotiations with their paper.
The Pekin Daily Times employees voted October 6, 2008, to have the St. Louis
Newspaper Guild as their representative. The Times is owned by Gatehouse, a
corporation that owns a number of newspapers around the country.
In January, 2009, the parties started bargaining a first contract. The contract has yet to be fully negotiated, finalized, and ratified.
State of the Union
We at TNG-CWA Local 36047 strive in all our dealings to live up to the ideals that inspired our union. Today, with the media landscape seeming to change almost daily, we must fight hard to protect member’s rights, as we constantly search out new opportunities to carry this mission forward.
