2010 Labor Day Events a Big Success

At the Peoria, IL, Labor Day picnic, Pekin Daily Times members were on hand and engaging other unions and union activists about ongoing negotiations with their paper. The Pekin Daily Times employees voted October 6, 2008, to have the St. Louis Newspaper Guild as their representative. The Times is owned by Gatehouse Media, a corporation that owns a number of newspapers around the country. In January, 2009, the parties started bargaining a first contract. The contract has yet to be fully negotiated, finalized, and ratified.

In St. Louis, Thousands of people turned out and cheered for area unions in the 2010 Labor Day Parade, incuding TNG members, CWA members, and a contingent of Jobs with Justice members, who are also members of our union. More than 80 locals turned out to march in the 2010 Labor Day parade.
